Rebecca Ponder and George Lutz founder of Honor and Remember.

The nation is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. Florence Johnson was among four Gold Star Mothers who received a Certificate of Honor from the Secretary of Defense, which recognizes the significant sacrifices made by her loved one, herself and their family.

Kevin Secor, Veterans Service Organizations Liaison from the Office of the
Secretary of Veterans Affairs brought us up to date on their activities to support veterans.

Rich Sanders, President of VietNow, presented our national president, Mary Byers,
the Award of Excellence, signifying "A Mother's Love" as a Gold Star Mother.

Major Jennifer Marino, USMC (Ret), spoke to convention attendees about her upcoming
Gold Star Bike Ride Project. Jenn plans to begin this journey on August 10, 2013
in Camp Pendleton, CA and end at Camp Lejeune, NC on October 25, 2013. She will be
visiting with Gold Star Families as she travels across the US to learn about their sons
and daughters. She is dedicating this ride to all the brave servicemen and women who
have given their lives in service to our country, whether their deaths occurred in combat situations, training missions or at their own hands.
